Do all of my sources need to be scholarly peer-reviewed articles? If your sources do not need to be scholarly peer-reviewed, then you may be referring to grey literature. 

Grey literature is material that is unpublished or has been published outside of the typical commercial or academic publishing environment

Examples of grey literature include: 

  • conference abstracts
  • presentations
  • proceedings
  • government publications
  • reports (such as white papers, working papers, internal documentation)
  • dissertations & theses
  • patents
  • regulatory data
  • unpublished trial data
  • policies & procedures
