Cressman Library History

The library at Cedar Crest College, originally housed in the Allen House, moved to its current location in 1963, with the completion of the Cressman Library Building. Moving a library collection isn't easy - but this move was made easier with the help of a student volunteer bucket brigade that moved many books from between the two buildings! The Cressman Library had its official dedication in 1964.

The Cressman Library went through a renovation in the mid-1990s, and again in the summer of 2016 when the Academic Services department moved in and joined the main floor of the building. Recent additions to the library include the Miller Poetry Corner on the main floor, a room presented as a gift to the Library by the class of 1930 in memory of fellow classmate and poet, Marjorie Wright Miller.

In 2023, The Learning Commons at Cedar Crest College, a collaborative hub for education, was created in partnership with the library and is located on the second floor of Cressman Library, along with the Gingko Grove, Cressman Library's collection of works by members of the Cedar Crest College Community: faculty, staff, administrators, students, and alumni. The Gingko Grove also includes an extensive collection of Cedar Crest College yearbooks, dating back to the 1920s.
