Instruction Services

The Cressman Library Information Literacy and Instruction Program supports Cedar Crest College’s educational mission by collaborating with faculty to equip undergraduate and graduate students with essential critical thinking and research skills.

Through in-person and virtual instructional opportunities, the program empowers students to effectively locate, evaluate, and ethically use information, fostering academic excellence and lifelong learning.

Instruction services available include:

  • Class instruction in library or campus classrooms
  • Asynchronous web-based instruction (research guides)
  • Synchronous web-based instruction (chat, phone, video conferencing)
  • Topical group workshops or presentations in library or online
  • Individual or small group research consultations

Visit our Information and Instruction Research Guide for additional information and information literacy frameworks, or use our online request form to schedule instruction services.

Contact Nick Galente, Information Literacy & Technical Services Librarian (ngalente@cedarcrest.edu) with any questions.

Placing Items on Reserve

The Cressman Library Course Reserves Service allows faculty members to request physical course materials such as books or media be placed on hold for students at our Library Service Desk for in-library use or short-term holds, as well as assisting in digitizing materials such as articles or book excerpts to be accessed electronically through Canvas. As the library, we're committed to helping alleviate the increasing cost of textbooks by making course materials accessible through our Reserves Service and by partnering with faculty to embed relevant library materials in course curriculums.

To see if an item is available in the library to be put on hold or linked electronically in Canvas, search in our online Library Catalog for available materials.

What can be put on reserve?

  • Books
  • Textbooks - please note: the library does not purchase textbooks or place textbooks on reserve for every course. Faculty members must donate a copy of their textbook or purchase a departmental copy, and request that the textbook be placed on hold or have select chapters digitized for electronic reserves.
  • Journal Articles
  • DVDs

Placing materials on reserve:

To place a physical item on reserve or to request assistance with digitizing materials, faculty must fill out the Course Reserve Form. Please If you are interested in the library acquiring (non-textbook) materials that support curricula, we invite staff and faculty to fill out our Faculty & Staff Library Purchase Request Form.

General Guidelines:

  • Allow at least two weeks for your request of digitized materials to be processed.
  • Allow three weeks (?) for purchased materials to be processed and fulfilled. The library cannot guarantee purchase of all requests, and may recommend departmental purchasing.
  • Material may be placed on reserve for one semester at a time. Physical materials will be returned to the library shelves and personal copies will be returned to instructors at the end of the semester (?).

Library Purchase Requests

Faculty are encouraged to send the library requests to acquire books, media, electronic resources, or other materials to support curricula. Recommendations are not a guarantee of purchase. To place a request, please submit the Faculty & Staff Library Purchase Request Form.

Please note that the Library does not purchase textbooks with library funds. However, should you want to use departmental funds to put a digital textbook on E-reserve, we are happy to assist you with that purchase.
