Why We Plan

Lesson planning is an essential skill for every teacher. A well-crafted lesson plan acts as a roadmap for what you want students to learn and how you’ll guide them there.

We lesson plan to:

  • Align instruction with standards and learning goals
  • Prepare purposeful activities and materials
  • Anticipate student needs and questions
  • Make it easier to adjust lessons as you teach

💡 Tip: Remember — lesson plans are revisionary. They are not one-and-done! Effective planning means revisiting, adjusting, and improving your lessons to meet student needs.

How to Plan

Creating a well-structured lesson plan doesn't have to feel overwhelming.  At Cedar Crest College, all education students use the same Lesson Plan Template when writing and submitting lesson plans. This resource is available in two fillable formats and provides a clear framework to guide your thinking, help you stay organized, and ensure you're meeting instructional goals.
