Why MLA Format?

MLA is the most commonly used citation format in the humanities. Those fields include arts, history, languages, literature, and philosophy. It is designed to cultivate scholarly communication by allowing authors to reference and discuss their sources. Sometimes a complete bibliography will be preferred instead of a simple works cited.
